#365DaysOfLearning – Week 51

by | May 1, 2021 | #365DaysofLearning, Blog

On Tuesday, May 12th, I started a new journey…365 days of Learning! I am going to put out a weekly summary of the things that I learned that week. All of these posts have occurred on my LinkedIn. Would love to connect with you there as well!

#365DaysOfLearning – Day 349, April 25, 2021

Imagine this…it’s Sunday afternoon. You have just got your toddler down for a nap, and you step outside into the glorious sunshine to crack open a new book.

Leisure reading has become a sacred (and sparse) activity over the last 2.4 years. 👦🏻 2 pages in, here comes the first distraction.

My husband gets home from a lovely 62-mile bike ride with lots of stories! Normally, I am one to prioritize the conversation, but today, I HAD to protect this precious sliver of time.

I was able to get through 52 beautiful pages! I felt refreshed and happy in my Vitamin D bliss. Must.Read.More.

How do you prioritize your self-care or learning time?

You are your own worst critic.

That was the phrase I heard in a Clubhouse room today. While it certainly wasn’t the first time I heard it, it stuck out differently to me.

Of all the people on the planet, you talk to yourself more than anyone else. Make sure you are saying the right things.

🌱 Growth Challenge: Today I am going to be super aware of my thoughts. If I notice one that is not serving me, I am going to take it captive and change the narrative IMMEDIATELY.

Reminders to self

Do you have an accountability partner?

For almost 6 months now, I have met weekly with an accountability partner, and it has been so helpful!

We are both working toward a similar goal, so we are able to speak a similar language and encourage each other along.

What do our calls look like? We…
🔷 Celebrate our wins and accomplishments from the past week
🔷 Talk about our challenges and how we can overcome them
🔷 Set goals for the following week
🔷 Encourage each other!

It usually only takes about 15-20 minutes, and it helps tremendously in making progress towards our goals!

One thing I have noticed – a week goes by FAST! Having someone to check in makes the process more fun, and makes you more intentional!!

How do you stay accountable?

Did you know that you have your very own QR code for your LinkedIn profile?!

On mobile, in the search bar, you will see an icon with little squares that links to where you can
1) Scan someone else’s QR code or
2) View yours!

Why would you need this?
👋 Connect easily at a networking event
💻 Include in your virtual presentation – your attendees can hold their cameras up to the screen and easily link to your profile

#365DaysOfLearning – Day 354, April 30, 2021

Today we started a quick 3-day weekend trip to the beach. What a way to close out Stress Awareness Month!

I’m curious to know your thoughts…how many days does it usually take you to wind down, and settle into your vacation once arriving?

#365DaysOfLearning – Day 355, May 1, 2021

“In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook told shareholders that the company had bought about 100 companies in the past six years. That works out to the iPhone maker buying a company every three to four weeks,” CNBC article author Kif Leswing shared.

The accountant in me can’t help but feel a little anxiety over that much M&A activity! 😂

I think Apple’s strategy of buying small companies that employ just a few people, (they buy the companies for the talent) is a really interesting one.

Where they have technical challenges, they look for companies to acquire to address them.

What would technology would you like to see Apple invest in next?
